In the vortex flow, due to the presence of rotation in it, the fluid layers have more turbulence than in the normal state, and hence the momentum components and the amount of heat transfer are more in this type of flow.
If there is a liquid in a container, its surface will be parallel to the horizon. Now, if the container starts to rotate, the liquid will also start to rotate due to the presence of viscosity and shear stress.
After an interval of time, the fluid moves like a solid. This means that all fluid particles move with the same angular velocity (ω = angular velocity of the container). In this case, there will be no shear stress, and the fluid rotation around the rotation axis is called “Forced Vortex”. In “free circulation”, the fluid container has no movement.
In this case, the container containing the liquid is at the bottom of the hole and the liquid comes out from there. The liquid forms a vortex-like state and rotates in order to exit from the said hole. One should pay attention to the main difference between the forced cycle and the free cycle, because in the free cycle, the speed of the liquid particles is inversely proportional to its distance from the center of the cycle.
With the eddy current device (vortex), the free and forced rotating flow is checked.
